On this auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, I would love to share an instant recipe of Kesar modak as well as chocolate modak.
If are not familiar with this festival, I would like to introduce a bit about this festival also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. It is one of the most significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha/Ganpati Bappa which is celebrated with great pomp in India, especially in Bombay, Maharastra. It is also believed that Lord Ganesha was born on this day.
When I was in Pune, I cherished every moment and enjoyed all the functions of Ganesh Chaturthi as well as Ganesh Visarjan with my family. Well, if you want to learn more about Ganesh Utsav and story of Ganesh Visarjan then click here.
Let us celebrate this occasion with the most favourite dessert of Lord Ganesha known as Modak.
I'm sharing the instant recipe of modak in time that you can prepare only with 2 main ingredients Marie biscuits and condensed milk that are easily available in the kitchen and also you can make perfect modak without mould.

Then this recipe is tried and tested and approved by my family, and you won't believe it taste so good and you don't even realize that cute little modak's are made up of Marie biscuits.

Recipe of Instant modak Two ways
1. Kesar Modak
2. Chocolate Modak Happy Diwali
Main Ingredients for any kind of Modak
- 20 Marie biscuits/digestive biscuits(Mcvitie's)
- 300 gms of Nestle condensed milk
For Kesar Modak
- Saffron strands ( 10-12)
- 4 tbsps cold milk
For Chocolate Modak
- 1/2 cup crushed dry fruits ( almonds, cashews, pistachios)
- 2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/3 cup cacao powder
Directions
- Firstly, break Marie biscuits with the help of your hands into small pieces, add it into the mixer grinder. ( Important step grind fine powder)
- Into a large bowl, add finely grind Marie biscuits powder and pour 300 gms condensed milk.
- Then, with the help of your hands mix until well combined and form a nice dough. ( Beware this step is bit messy and sticky)
- Lastly, if you are making Kesar Modak add 10 saffron threads into a small bowl add 2 tsp of cold milk mix well until golden yellow colour form.
- Now pour the saffron mix onto the dough and mix well until combined.
- Place the dough in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
- If you have modak mould then simply place the small portion of the dough and press it. Modak will be ready in minutes.
- WITHOUT MOULD- take a small portion of the dough and place it on your palm and make a small round ball.
- Now flatten the shape of the ball into an oval shape like dumplings and with the help of a toothpick make some lines all around to give the exact shape of modak.
- Keep it in the refrigerator and serve to your family and enjoy this fest.
For making Chocolate Modak
- Add cocoa powder, crushed nuts, and cardamom powder onto the prepared dough of Marie biscuits and condensed milk
- Mix well until well combined.
- Place the dough in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.
- If you have modak mould then simply place the small portion of the dough and press it. Modak will be ready in minutes.
- WITHOUT MOULD- take a small portion of the dough and place it on your palm and make a small round ball.
- Now flatten the shape of the ball into a triangle shape like dumplings and with the help of a toothpick make some lines all around to give the exact shape of modak. Another way is to make round balls and decorate with almonds.
- If you like pinwheel shape you can roll chocolate dough and a plain dough in a big round shape and place chocolate dough onto the plain dough and make a roll. keep this roll into the refrigerator for 15 minutes then cut it into pieces.
- Keep it in the refrigerator and serve to your family and enjoy this fest.
